Forty five per cent of Carmarthenshire County Council’s housing stock achieves the Carmarthenshire Homes Standard years before the end of the authority’s ambitious £203 million improvement programme.
By 2015, all of the council’s homes will achieve the standard, with many of the work programmes –The Carmarthenshire Homes Standard was launched in 2005 as a 10-year programme to improve the council’s 9,000 homes, as well as improving tenants’ communities and general health and well being.
RT Electrics is partnering with many of the Framework approved contractors in delivering this project, ensuring all properties meet the electrical standards required. This involves rewiring properties or upgarding the electrical installations to include Domestic smoke, co2 detectors,
Last year alone, £26million was invested with 959 new kitchens and 853 new bathrooms installed; 871 efficient heating systems; 575 hard wired smoke detectors and 878 carbon monoxide detectors.
Executive Board Member for Housing, Cllr Tegwen Devichand, said: “The Carmarthenshire Homes Standard has made a significant improvement – not only to the standard of our tenants’ homes but also to their quality of life. Perhaps the most significant improvement in the eyes of our tenants is that their homes are more energy efficient – they are easier to heat and keep warm, which has an impact on their bills and also their health.”
